Title : Vitex negundo leaf extracts protective potential against streptozotocin-induced diabetic neuropathy in Wistar rats
Abstract:
Background: In the disease development & evolution of diabetic neuropathy, oxidative stress contributes a major part. Vitex negundo is capable of enhancing antioxidant mechanism. The current investigation aimed to examine the protective potential outcomes of the extract of vitex negundo leaf against the diabetes mellitus in rat produced by Streptozotocin (STZ).
Method: Diabetic neuropathy was produced by one dose of Streptozotocin. Diabetic animal (rats) was distributed into 5 groups; Normal Group, Diabetic Group, Standard Group to receive gabapentin, two test groups- one received 100 mg per kg and another received 200 mg per kg of leaf extracts. Hydro-alcoholic extracts of plant material were evaluated for 30 days, in rats. From the above outcome, it was concluded that VME selected has a significant value, in management of NIDDM as well as diabetic neuropathy as per the various models used like blood glucose, gait score, hot hyperalgesia, Cold allodynia LFSD, Narrow beam test and Charcoal meal test. Histopathology Haematoxylin and eosin tissue staining was used to correlate biochemical & functional brain fluctuations.
Result: The leaf extract of vitex negundo at the dose 100 mg per kg & 200 mg per kg significantly improved the diabetic neuropathy of rat and decreased hyperglycemia, +oxidative stress biomarkers and improve neuronal function in in-vivo experiment.
Conclusion: The conclusion of the study was that the Vitex negundo’s leaf extract exhibits positive results against STZ induced DN through diabetic neuropathy, anti-diabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory potentials.
