A Pediatric Neurologist is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological issues in children. They specialize in a variety of conditions, including brain and nervous system diseases, genetic disorders, epilepsy, congenital malformations, brain tumors, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and other issues. Pediatric Neurologists often take a multidisciplinary approach to their patients' care, using a combination of tests, medications, therapy, and other forms of intervention in order to provide specialized treatment. They often collaborate with other professionals, such as psychologists, therapists and educators, to develop individualized treatment plans for each child. In order to accurately assess a child’s condition, Pediatric Neurologists typically begin by discussing the patient’s medical and family history, as well as any medications he or she might be taking. They may also perform imaging tests, such as CT scans and MRIs, and administer behavioral and cognitive tests in order to formulate an accurate diagnosis. Once the cause of the child's condition is identified, Pediatric Neurologists may begin a course of treatment. This can involve a variety of approaches, such as medication therapy, physical therapy, makeup of special diets like gluten-free diets, genetic counseling, psychotherapy, sleep studies, electroencephalography (EEG) and more. Pediatric Neurologists are important medical professionals who are responsible for diagnosing and treating ailments in children. They may use a variety of strategies and treatments in order to help children reach their full potential. In addition, they are also involved in educating parents about the condition their child has and how to best manage it.
