Prof. Svyatoslav Medvedev finished his higher education in Theoretical Physics 1972 from Lenigrad State University (Leningrad, USSR) and in 1978 received Ph.D. degree in Physics. Later his research interests were moved to the field of Neurophisiology. Svyatoslav Medevdev started to work in I. M. Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry where headed the lab. In 1987 he defended dissertation and received the degree of Dr.Sci in Biology. In 1990 he was founder of the Institute of the Human brain (IHB RAS) which included the first in Russia positron emission tomography center. Since 1990 he is the Director of IHB RAS and the head of the PET laboratory (now Neuroimaging laboratory). In 1997 Prof. Medvedev was elected as Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences and in 2016 as Academician (Full member of RAS). Prof. Medvedev is a member of IOP, ESCAN, CIANS, regular reviewer and member of editorial board of scientific journals. His main research interests are in the field of studying of principles and mechanisms of organization of brain systems maintaining higher functions in healthy and diseased human and translation of obtained results of basic research into clinical practice.
