Biography

Prof. Harry Steinbusch is appointed as Professor in Cellular Neuroscience, chairman of the Department of Translational  Neuroscience, past-director of the School for Mental Health and Neuroscience, current Director of the European Graduate School for Neuroscience at Maastricht University and President of the Neurotoxicity Society. Recently he is appointed as Fellow of the Indian Society for Neurosciences, as Adjunctive Professor at Ajou University in Korea, Professor Neuroscience at Hasselt University, Belgium. He is the founding editor of the Journal of Chemical Neuroanatomy. His research is focussed on neurodevelopmental influences towards depression and neurodegenerative diseases studied in animal models. This implies combining a broad range of techniques, i.e. molecular neurobiology, quantitative neuromorphology, animal behavior and epigenetics. He has thus far guided 89 Ph.D. students. He has been involved as the director of the travel IBRO program. He was twice coordinator of a Marie Curie Early Stage Training site. His current Hirsch factor is 83; publications: 475; citations without self-citations: 29,613.

  • Grant from EU IP-FP6 on NewMood (€ 7,300.000.= of which € 581,000.= for IP).
  • Early Stage Training Mobility Research grant by the FP6th-EC as "coordinator" for the project (€ 2.850,000.=)
  • Grant from EU IP-FP6 on Edu-Glia (€ 12,400.000.= of which € 484,000.= as workpackage leader)
  • Grant from EACEA to coordinate network between EU and Japan: € 670,000.=.
  • Grant from CAPES Brasil: exchange program between Brasil and The Netherlands: € 285,000.=.
  • Erasmus Mundus Life Long Learning programma: European Master in Neuroscience: € 285.000,=.
  • About 12 Grants for organizing International meetings in Europe and the U.S have been obtained with a total value of € 480,000.=.

Infrastructure:

Within Maastricht University a centralized facility has been established which includes all facilities for Molecular Cellular work, Quantititave Morphology, including advanced stereology, behavioral work both for human as well as animal experimenents, Imaging Facilties for human as well small animals.
